I recently got the opportunity to do lashes and brows on the famous Baz and his wife. It was over 2 nights at their home on the Gold Coast. Baz Luhmann is a film producer, writer and actor for major films such as Romeo & Juliet, Recently ELVIS, The great gatsby + many more!
I have worked with well known stylists, on set for music video clips and worked behind the scenes for shows in the past, but I still get nervous!
I was given the opportunity on a week that my hubby had off work (luckily) and he had to take the kids from 5pm so I could take this opportunity.
I packed my stock for Catherines lashes and brow styling day 1. I double checked everything I needed, I also took an extra lash fan in case mine died on me. I also had to bring my massage bad, light, pillow and chair.
I set up in the living room with minimal lighting and space. I spoke to Catherine about her desires and made it relaxing for her. In my time we were always told to not speak or talk unless being spoken to to join in on conversation. I also learnt not to talk about your personal issues or engage in personal chat to keep things professional.
Catherine and I had a lovely chat about where we were from and I met her son and daughter. They were all so welcoming but I told Catherine to relax and I worked giving a set of hybrid lashes with the open doors and sound of the beach waves.
After her set I got her to check her lashes but I forgot my mirror! (So don’t you forget that)… She viewed them in a mirror after her brows were done and she loved everything very much.
Day 2 – Baz
Day 2 I was a little nervous as Baz was so well known to people around me and I wanted to be the best brow stylist. He asked for threading but I let my confidence go out the window and told him waxing was my thing. I coloured the brows with Baz sitting in the chair. Next time I will get him to lay down as I love to offer brow massage and I couldn’t do this with him sitting up.
We spoke about all kinds of things including his trip to Tokyo and he showed me his clothes he got which were very “Groovy” (My age showing)… I felt relaxed with Baz, he was so kind and lovely and I felt we could work together again. I told him about my salon and he spoke about more opportunities in the future on set.
We used Elleebana oxidant to do an oxidant wash for 2 minutes. Then applied colour to the brows in light brown + dark brown. The aim was to isolate white hairs.
My advice is to use the eye guard to isolate hairs avoiding making them too dark. Or using red on the white hairs first before colouring.
The complete time I was given this job I was nervous until I turned up. I kept thinking to myself that I would feel such a sense of achievement once I completed the work and I could share my experience with you all.
What I want you to know is if an opportunity comes to you it is because it is meant to be. You are the right person for the job so dont tell yourself you are not good enough because you can achieve anything and you are worth it!
